Taranaki South

Kina Road

Kina Road is a beach break on a sandy beach, located at the end of Kina Road. There are several peaks to take off from, but generally the north end has good rights and the southern end has good lefts. Good punchy, wally waves and can handle big swells. Good for Intermediate to Expert surfers.

Arawhata

Arawhata is a right hand point break on a rocky point, located off Arawhata Road. There is a right hander at the north end of the beach and a left hander at the southern end of the beach. The waves can have a hollow drop in, but otherwise its mostly a softer wave. Good for Intermediate to Expert surfers.

Desperation Point

Desperation Point is the southern point out off Opunake Beach. The are several peaks out off the point, with both right and left-handers. The wave is punchy and wally. Best on a good size swell. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers.

Sky Williams

Sky Williams is a left hand point break on a rocky point located south of Opunake. The wave is a good, powerful left hand point with a the odd barrel and nice long ride. Esposed point picks up good swell. Good for intermediate to expert surfers.

Mangahume

Mangahume is a right hand point break on a rocky point located south of Opunake. The wave is a solid, powerful right hand point with a hollow drop in. Leave this one to the experts.

Green Meadows

Green Meadows is a right hand point break on a rocky point located south of Opunake. The wave is a good right hand point with a solid fast, wall, with the odd barrel and the wave peels along giving a long ride. Leave this one to the experts.

Ahu Ahu

Ahu Ahu is a sand beach with a left hand point break along the rocks at the west end of the beach and a right hand point break along the rocks at the east end of the beach. The waves are both fast and hollow, providing good rides. Suitable for all surfers.

Waverly

Waverly is a right hand point break and a beach break on a sandy beach. The right hand point is at the western end of the beach. The wave is punchy and hollow. Good for all levels of surfer. Features caves and arches at the east end of the beach.

Patea River Mouth

Patea River Mouth is a beach break on a sandy beach located at the Mouth of the Patea River. You can surf on both sides of the river mouth or sometimes right up into the river mouth, but usually best of the south side. The wave is punchy and hollow. Good for all levels of surfer. Watch out, river mouths often have strong currents and rips.

Opunake Beach

Opunake Beach is a nice beach break on a sandy beach. A nice shaped wave, with both right and left handers. Sometimes a long right hander can be working right across the beach. The outer reefs on the rocky points can be surfed if the conditions are right. Good for beginners to experts. It can get busy in summer, so watch out for swimmers.
