Wellington

Wellington

New Zealand's capital has its fair share of quality waves. There is a cluster of south facing breaks close to the city airport, like Lyall Bay and Airports. Fun waves can also be found facing west along the Kapiti Coast, with Titahi Bay and Wairaka Reef being two of the favourites.

Lyall Bay

Lyall Bay is a popular beach break close to Wellington, meaning it gets very crowded when it's on. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach. Often the best peak is near the rock wall by the airport, which can dredge up some gnarly take-offs and offer some decent barrels. The Maranui end of the beach picks up more swell angles with some good peaks. On a big swell, the reef on Arthur's Nose can start working.
